<DIV dir=ltr>Wow! What a time to be a part of CBW! I am so proud to be affiliated with this group! </DIV>
<DIV dir=ltr> </DIV>
<DIV dir=ltr>
<DIV dir=ltr>Thanks so much for the kudos and for the honor of working with all of you these past few years. </DIV>

<DIV dir=ltr> So many other things to say in thanks (and I will), but I'll table for a short time to push out this. </DIV>

<DIV dir=ltr>Here's Chris Anson, in response to the IHE article on BW:</DIV>

<LI class=comment-body><EM>If the intuitions of those who spoke at the annual business meeting are right, then this is a problem that needs attention. Basic writing has always been an important part of the CCCC and its membership, and it remains a crucially important area of higher education and our continuing efforts toward access and the further preparation for all aspiring students. The theme of next year's conference--which focuses on both the positive and negative aspects of "gateways" and the transitions students make as learners--lends itself to a strong focus on these issues, and I'll be working hard to ensure that they are represented in St. Louis.<BR></EM></LI></DIV>

<DIV dir=ltr>While we wait to get access to CBW-L, perhaps I can share with you a proposal from Seth Kahn I just received via FB. Our fabulous new leadership (Liz and Hannah) will help us develop the best action plan. I'm just tossing this out there because Seth sent the message. </DIV>
<DIV dir=ltr> </DIV>
<DIV dir=ltr>A little background: Seth chairs the labor caucaus, a group with many overlapping concerns to our own. It seems worth pursuing and highlighting these potential connections. I believe Seth is hoping to propose a featured Double Session that would allow conference goers the opportunity for workshop atmosphere during conference itself so they don't have to stay an extra night or so and spend that $</DIV>

<DIV style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 7px">Shannon:<BR><BR>I wasn't kidding Sat morning at Cs that we need to pitch a featured session for CCCC 2012. My current working (so to speak) title is something like, "Revisiting the Politics of Writing Instruction: Postsecondary" (riffing on the book from what, 1991?). <BR><BR>The idea would be to invite CBW, Labor, Adjunct, Diversity and other constituencies with overtly political issues/agendas to talk about the current state of the field in those terms. We'd have to flesh out what that means, of course, but ...<BR><BR>I kind of have Chris Anson's ear these days, although he's so nice it's hard to tell whether he's just humoring me, but if you're interested in having a go at this, I'm happy to start rapping him on it.<BR><BR>Let me know what you think.<BR><BR>--Seth</DIV></DIV>

<DIV dir=ltr>Other suggestions I've gathered include: </DIV>
<DIV dir=ltr> </DIV>
<DIV dir=ltr>1. A panel on the new bw (featuring research in BW, coming out now and/or soon). Steve Lamos, for example, and others we can suggest and to which Kelly Ritter has agreed to respond if interested in proposing this direction). </DIV>
<DIV dir=ltr> </DIV>
<DIV dir=ltr>2. Mike Rose, Lynn Troyka? </DIV>
