Apparently they still have a copy editor on the grounds and will be sending her to the meeting tomorrow morning. She asked for background info. Because there has been no response yet to Liz's press release, I'll just write up a little narrative about what the resolution is and how active we have been in the past couple of days. If I see that anyone (esp. Bill and/or Shannon) have responded and given their approval to the press release before I send my email tonight, I'll send the press release along instead. If not, I'll just send the resolution and a little narrative. All the best,
Mike

Michael D. I'm far afield here, but I
copied the format for a press release. Rebecca, I used your statement as
the "significant quote." Thoughts?

How do you feel about this? Is this too much, or do we want to run with
it?

Since I won't be there, I put Bill and Shannon as the contacts. What do
you think? Virtually
invisibleat the national CCCC convention, Basic Writing is gone as a
strand, as afeatured session, and even as a central word in conference
session titles.
That point was driven home in the 2011 Chair's address, asprinted in the
program that "the fields that make up CCCC--composition,rhetoric,
creative writing, language/linguistics, visual and digital
rhetorics,professional writing and communication--are diverse."
In response to the absence of Basic Writing at CCCC, Rebecca Mlynarczyk,
Co-editor, Journal of Basic Writing said, "Basic Writing is an important
sub-set of composition studies with a significant student population and
with a long and distinguished history and scholarship. We feel it is
important that Basic Writing be acknowledged explicitly by CCC in a time
of waning public support for this important endeavor."
To help to encourage CCCC to provide support for basicwriting faculty
and students, and to recommit to the central role Basic Writinghas in
the field of composition, we are introducing the following sense of
thehouse resolution at the business meeting tomorrow morning. "Be it
resolvedthat Basic Writing, a vital field and its students and teacher
scholars aproductive force within composition; is under attackâ¨by
exclusionary publicpolicies; and therefore must be recognized publicly
and supported by CCCC as aconference cluster and with featured
sessions."

Contact:
William Lalicker
Executive Board of CBW
WLalicker@wcupa.edu

Shannon Carter
Outgoing Chair of CBW
cartershannon@gmail.com

J.
