Hello, CBW EB--

By now I'm sure the roar of the new semester is upon you, but we wanted to touch base with you about CBW and the rest.

Update 1: Our open CFP for CBW 2011 resulted in about 10 proposals, the vast majority of which bring new BW voices into our organization and contribute to the conversation in some fresh and important ways. Given that we have set aside two Open Panels and a Roundtable Discussion for the presentations resulting from our open call, we can actually accommodate all of them and we'd like to. But we want to be certain the proposals we have meet EB approval.

Request 1: Are some of you available to review this handful of short proposals to determine if any should be rejected or redirected? We have two options for accepted presenters: (1) present to the entire CBW Workshop during one of the Open Panels (one in morning, one in afternoon) or (2) present at one of our Roundtables during the Roundtable Discussion at the end of the day. All presenters were asked to limit their proposed presentations to 8-10 minutes, so any proposal submitted can accommodate either format (traditional panel--up to 4 per panel; roundtable--as many as we like).

We'd like to notify those who submitted by next week, if possible. We expect to hear back from CCCC about proposal by September as well, and it would be nice to cluster our CBW notifications with theirs. In the meantime, I'll ask our graduate students here on my campus to help us sort potential placement of proposed sessions on our CBW 2011 workshop schedule, bringing like themes together and offering a fresh, sometimes relatively new-to-the-field perspective to the conference.
Update 2: BWe! At long, long last, BWe is live (http://orgs.tamu-commerce.edu/BWe). We are very proud of this Double Issue and the new infrastructure of Associate Editors it introduces. For that and so much more, we have you to thank! So thanks: for your amazing work, insight, generosity, and patience. For the long, long delay, . . . I must should the lion's share of the blame on that one. In the last few months I've been buying a new home, moving, preparing for a wedding, finishing up an NEH grant application (weren't awarded), and some other good stuff. The professional/personal balance has been one I'm working to figure out. But it's out now!

Update 3: Barbara Gleason is Editor for the next BWe Special Issue on multimodal composing. Check out the call for submissions and see if that doesn't get you excited!

Thanks, all!
