CBW Workshop: Two Requests

Hi, all--

In preparation for the CBW Workshop (in two days! Gulp!), we have just a couple of requests:

1. Facilitators: We ended up having to make some hard decisions on the application as far as names were concerns since we were limited to 12 (ugh! CCCC mandate from the year before). We went with folks who we untenured or otherwise, from our very limited ability to research such issues given time constraints and other things, seemingly in great needs of being actually *on* the program.

But we need all hands we can get. We see lots of discussion happening in this workshop and we are hoping to strategically place all the EB folks at tables throughout the room to help facilitate discussion during our many breakout group activities.

Are you available for that? We'll introduce you EB folks at the beginning of the workshop and as you to raise your hand so we can identify you. You'll be our go-to folks during the workshop. Your names will also be included on the flyer that lists all the Executive Board members and info about BWe, CBW, and urls. (flyer attached—thanks, Susan, for generating this!)

If you are available, we also invite you join us at the workshop room at 8:15 so we can talk through plans and get you strategically located throughout the room (spread relatively evenly amongst our participants).

2. Camera? Do you have a camcorder/still camera/audio recorder you can bring with you to SF? I will have five flipcameras and a handful of audio recorders to share with participants during our workshop (see “NCoW-CBWworkshop2009” document attached). The more the better.

During the 11:00 session (Basic Writing and the National Conversation on Writing), we’ll be capturing audio and video from interviews with participants. We’ll take this footage back to A&M-Commerce and develop a video response to NCoW’s call for stories about writing and writers. The theme will be something like “talking back”--a productive response from basic writing students and their teachers to the literacy crisis. A positive response that, we hope, will help change the story about writing and writers to something more positive and productive.

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing everyone very soon!
