We have a wonderful graduate serving as WPA at a very smart and progressive community college in the Dallas area (Collin College). I don’t know if she’s interested, but I suspect she would be quite interested. And she’d have a lot to add. I don’t know how involved she could be in future workshops, unfortunately. She’s very involved with TYCA and so is usually tied up with workshops/sessions for that important organization.

Collin College is an atypical community college in some ways. It is very wealthy (very strong tax base). It’s also pretty white. But it does serve large numbers of working students, non traditional students, and other populations so very well served by our excellent community colleges across the nation.

Her name is Sonja Andrus.

Another graduate of ours is serving as WPA at Prairie View A&M. She’s done some very good work with basic writing and was one of the best teachers our program has ever seen. She’s deeply committed to working with at-risk writers and she’s done some very interesting work on the subject. I don’t know how often she’s able to attend CCCC very often given their limited travel budgets, but a position on the EB might be helpful to her in securing funding.

Prairie View A&M is an HBCU. Tonya Scott an alumnus of PV and an African American herself. She’s a former recipient of the Scholars for the Dream award.
Shannon and all, my only concern would be having three board members from
one institution. Did I read it correctly that they are both at Texas
A&M-Commerce? kb
