<DIV dir=ltr><FONT face=Arial size=2>1. In the past year, I chaired a double search that yielded two excellent new colleagues:</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Kuhio Walters, from the University of New Hampshire, with strengths including visual rhetoric and intercultural rhetorics (and many other strengths I will discover once I know him better!);</FONT></DIV></LI>
<LI>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Jeff Sommers, from Miami University (Middletown), an established scholar, inventive teacher, and all-around good person who brings his editorship of <EM>Teaching English in the Two-Year College </EM>to West Chester University.</FONT></DIV></LI></UL></DIV>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>Both of these new colleagues have much to contribute to our basic writers, and to those of us who teach basic writing.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>2. I've been made Director of the university's Global Development Collaborative, which means I help facilitate the internationalization of our curricula, study abroad partnerships on every continent, transnational research projects linked to international institutions, and the like. One thing I hope to do is to make study abroad more accessible to all students, whatever their financial status. And I look forward to learning more, through this position, about the intersection of L2 learning and basic writing, as some of our partnerships aid EFL programs at overseas institutions.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>3. I continue as Co-Director for Faculty Development for our Composition Program, working on pedagogical issues with everybody who teaches writing--an enviable job, as I have such good colleagues.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>Personal updates:</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>Life goes on as usual; my daughters Ann (10) and Kateri (8) have become serious Nordic skiiers on a recent trip away from not-very-snowy metropolitan Philadelphia to the megafrosty Adirondacks, and continue to surprise and delight us daily.</FONT></P>
