Dear E-CBW (esp. Liz),
I think that we can leave open our call for poster session topics/areas. We could add something like
"...local models for success on basic writing and race, basic writing and social inequality, basic writing and racial justice are featured, as well as many other significant topics, such as preparing and supporting basic writing faculty, technology in the basic writing classroom, new models for basic writing instruction, innovative programs, responding to local challenges, meeting challenges and attacks on basic writing programs, and making the work of basic writing part of the public fabric of our communities."
...or something to this effect. In other words, we highlight the importance and focus on BW and race for the entire day's workshop, but make it understood that we also value and will consider many other proposals for the poster session.
-Sarah

Friends,
I appreciate all of your careful thinking and editing on the proposal. Great work! I've massaged it a little and added in a quotation from a recent article as grounding (perhaps better than just listing names without articles and dates?). See what you think. I lost track of who edited what, but I wanted to point out that I did revise a revision to take out the discussion of class and gender. While I know that we all agree that race is inextricably intertwined with other factors, I wanted to honor the specific discussion the editorial board had about focusing on race (see board minutes and Hannah's earlier commentary on this proposal).
Susan did a nice rewrite, which I disagreed with, about the publishing workshop. I think focusing the publishing workshop on race alone (publishing about race and basic writing) is too limiting when people may have many ideas. However, to Hannah's point about weaving race into the overall proposal, I wonder about revising the open poster session and asking for presentations on basic writing and race. Our roundtable is going to do a lovely job with this as well, but what if the poster presentations focused on many different aspects of basic writing and race? If you like this idea, I'll revise that language.
See what you think about how the proposal is coming along. As before, I'm very happy for your edits and ideas.

I have also put in Victor's title and proposal. He is not addressing race specifically, but something that definitely speaks to our group: how you support and sustain basic writing programs.
Also, does anyone other than Bill know Victor personally? If so, I'll defer to you to introduce him. If not, Sugie or I can introduce him in our capacities as co-chairs.
I'd like to start submitting the proposal around 3 tomorrow, well ahead of the deadline. So, if you can, make your comments/edits/suggestions tonight?
Liz
