Agenda



1. Celebrate what we did last year: say your name (just in case), say in one sentence how last year’s work made a difference for you in your individual work, your institution, or the discipline



2. Thanks and kudos and thanks again to board members stepping down (Peter, Rebecca, Sonya, Shannon, Alan); thanks to Chris Anson and Howard Tinberg in the form of Sense of House resolution.



3. Discussion items



(a) Sub-committees were formed and their 2012-2013 work focus decided (Chairs and FY12-13 focus in bold below)



  *   Community Development:  electronic community/membership (blog, fb); local area development—Liz, Debra (chair)
     *   Connecting to larger network of developmental (e.g., NADE)
     *   research a list of all the possible partners (organizations, foundations)—deliverable is a White Paper (focus)
     *   Membership formalization



  *   Institutionalization & Activism: mission & charter; NCTE/CCCC Statement development—Marissa (chair), Steve, Hannah, Bill (Alan ex officio)



     *   Draft a CCCC/NCTE statement toward a formal resolution to be introduced in February (focus)—notes toward that…basic writing as a discipline that integrates developmental, social justice, students rights, not preparation is college work, some practices to emphasize and deemphasize, reading and writing are inseparable (key principles and practices), framework for post-secondary writing, erro…TYCA
     *   Threat to non-elite students
     *   Foundations and publishing companies—Lumina, testing


  *   Scholarship:  Basic Writing e-journal; work on the pre-con workshop (e.g., reviewing  submissions, etc.) supporting the co-chairs; mentoring scholars –Susan (Rebecca ex officio)
     *   Mentoring of new scholars—starting a way to connect mentors and mentees partnership (focus)


  *   Funding and Awards: Innovation, Scholarship—Sarah & Greg (chair)…Bedford, other (e.g., Evaluation Program/Speakers bureau); Pearson?



     *   Make the awards happen and reexamine the parameters of the awards (focus)
     *   Expansion/change to “bigger” more impactful exemplar
     *   Get a good pool of innovation
     *   Raise funds—Rebecca shared that there was money raised several years ago for JBW that can be reallocated toward awards



(b) Reconstitution of board—Decisions to ask the following applicants to join the Board (Liz will formally ask them)

·        Ideas were discussed about how to formalize membership of board with terms and rotation and representation, diversification of board and CBW being a big priority; ideas to use the pre-con workshop to build connections to diverse communities (e.g., a focus on HBCU’s and other minority-serving institutions)
