Let me second Liz's excitement and gratitude.
Mike, we would be honored if you would also like a chance to speak at the Wednesday workshop and/or the SIG, so if you would prefer one, the other, or not to at all, please let Liz and I know.
Best--

I suspect everyone is getting a little anxious about the featured panel
you asked Lynn and me to organize for CCCC next year. I was too.
I am happy, actually elated, to report that Mike Rose has agreed to be
on the panel. With Lynn and Mike on it, I think it will really give
basic writing a big boost. We also plan to work hard on getting some
press coverage for the talk, so if anyone has any connections with media
people in St. Louis, please let me know.

Subject: RE: [CBW_Exec] CBW Mission Statement info
Hi Steve,
Thanks to you and the subcommittee for revising the mission statement.
Overall, it looks great. I have one concrete suggestion and two
questions. The suggestion is to add "class" to the list of forms of
diversity so it would read: "...especially in terms of language, race,
ethnicity, class, background, and ability."
The questions are 1) Although CBW has not been formally engaged in any
K-12 (especially 6-12) dialogues, is it something that we want to
promote? The current discussions about common core standards, etc., seem
to offer an opportunity for us to engage more visibly and effectively
with secondary school teachers.
2) In the last bullet point on influencing public policies, I wonder if
we also want to say something about private foundations and corporate
influence on education. Given the privatization of education, the intent
to influence "public policies" almost, alas, seems too little, too late.
Thanks again for pushing us forward.

Subject: [CBW_Exec] CBW Mission Statement info
CBW Executive Board Members:
The informal EB subcommittee on a mission statement (made up of Susan
Bernstein, Kathleen Baca, Marissa Klages, and Steve Lamos) has worked
for the past couple of weeks to produce a mission statement that
reflects our collective CBW work at CCCC.
Our final version of this statement--the product of lots of subcommittee
deliberation over the past couple of weeks--is attached to this e-mail
in .docx format. (We've also run it by Liz and Hannah as well.)
At this point, we're asking you all to take a careful look at this
statement and offer any final suggestions (e.g., wording things, etc.)
that you may have. Once we can all agree on a final version of this
statement, it'll go up on the CBW website ASAP.
Many thanks,
Steve Lamos and the subcommittee
