I agree with Liz that Marisa Klages would be a great addition to the group.

Hi Shannon,
I'd love to add Marisa Klages to our group, so I am nominating her for the board. I teach with Marisa at LaGuardia. She's very committed to Basic Writing and is currently leading a national project on Basic Writing pedagogy, which Peter Adams and I are a part of. [Full disclosure: project is funded by Gates]
Marisa is enthusiastic, very tapped into C's (she's on the assessment committee), very energetic. She has 2-3 publications in BW, 1 co-authored with me in JBW on teaching with technology in BW. She has presented at CBW (in Chicago), and usually presents on Basic Writing at CCCC.

Hi, all--
A couple of items worth announcing and exploring before we meet it Atlanta April 6th:
I. New CBW Executive Board Members:
II. BWe, Special Issue and Future
III. CBW Co-Chairs
I. New CBW Executive Board Members
SLATE:
a. Tim Peeples (nominated by Barbara Gleason)
b. Steve Lamos (nominated by Shannon Carter)
c. Others?
REASONING: Individuals suggested bring experiences that can help advance the organization in ways CBW EB and membership identified as important--relevant use of new media (Peeples) and organizational structures (Lamos).
Lamos will lead the discussion on mission statements and his 2010 CBW Workshop presentation was well received. He is excited to get involved and eager to help in any way he can. Bio: Steve Lamos is Assistant Professor of English and Associate Director of the Program for Writing at the University of Colorado-Boulder. His forthcoming book, _Interests and Opportunities: Race, Racism, and University-Level Writing Instruction in the Post-Civil Rights Era_ (University of Pittsburgh Press 2011), examines historical relationships between race-based educational opportunity programs and basic writing instruction. He has also published related essays in _College Composition and
Communication_, _College English_, and the _Journal of Basic Writing_.
Barbara: will you share more in support of Peeples? I can certainly highlight several things, including his marvelous article (BWe's first multimodal one!) published in previous issue of BWe. Smart, rich, and important.
II. BWe, Special Issue and Future
The current co-editors of BWe (Carter and Bernstein) nominate Barbara Gleason as next editor of BWe.
As you know, Barbara Gleason is currently serving as guest editor of a Special Issue of BWe, which has been a huge undertaking given some of the complexities in how our website was reconstructed over here on my campus (Sylwester's first web project and iWeb not terribly forgiving) and rest.
The Special Issue is well underway, and Barbara is well positioned to take BWe to the next level as a national, sustainable and world-class publication that might better serve as vehicle for CBW and its future.
An added benefit: BWe can go back "home," in essence," to City College where basic writing as it is often understood today got its start under Mina Shaughnessy.
We've approached Barbara about this possiblity, and she is agreeable and has some wonderful ideas already underway.
We ask CBW EB to discuss this suggested move and new editorship and respectfully request your endorsement.
III. New CBW Co-Chairs
As you know, Hannah Ashley and I were elected to serve as CBW Co-Chairs from 2008-2011. We decided at last year's meeting that it would be better to stagger Co-Chairs with new chair coming on to join one already in place. To this end, Hannah Ashley has generously agreed to serve a forth year, allowing future years to stagger new leadership.
CBW 2011 in Atlanta is, therefore, my last year. It has been fabulous, folks!
CBW 2012 in St. Louis will be Hannah's last.
Last year CBW asked Liz Clark to join on as CBW Co-Chair, 2012-2014. Liz has kindly agreed to step in in Hannah's place this year to help me coordinate workshop and SIG on day of since Hannah can't be here with us at 2011 events. Hannah's been deeply involved throughout process and will remain so until we head to Atlanta.
The upshot: We will need to begin discussing protocol (and individuals) to replace Hannah in 2012.
So FYI on that front!
Also, additional items to keep in mind during workshop and later: 1) Processing recommendations from what just happened at CBW (which you'll get from workshop)
* What recommendations/outcomes came out of each talk/session/roundtable?
* How can we take advantage of networking/media venues to make this work more visible? Ideas such as...
**the virtual conference structure CCCC has set up
**New editor BWe Barbara Gleason; Special Issue on multimodality; more Special Issues to raise visibility/collaborate with other programs/journals/orgs? E.g., College English (Yay Kelly!) JBW (Yay Rebecca and Yay new editors), Kairos, CCC Online, and the like.
2. Revisit last year's EB mintutes, assess how we did on what we committed to do/intersections with #1 above
3. Where do we go from here? Next action steps
