Hi All--You will probably get several notes from me between now and tomorrow. Just trying to take care of things.
First: Shannon, if you did not get any response on "what to do with the list" of those interested in Basic Writing. I think you absolutely should send the note you proposed below. It's actually a GREAT time to do it, so if JP can get it done today or tomorrow (and most people continue checking e-mail over the trip, so...) that would be great. I say--do it!!
Second: I have an Executive Suite in the Galt House. Let's meet there for the Executive Board meeting, which is, once again, on Thursday, 3-5pm. No room number yet, but I should be able to let you all know at the Workshop on Wednesday.
Third: The SIG is scheduled for the Marriott, Kentucky Ballroom E, first floor, just in case you had trouble finding that location.
More updates to come...
Hannah

Subject: [CBW_Exec] Membership List?
Importance: High
Hi, all--
I know everyone is busily preparing for our get together next week. Can't wait! (Though I'm not sure how/when this presentation is going to get written <gulp!>).
I just wanted to check again to see if anyone thinks they might want to help us do something with the list of members Kelly pulled together.
If no one is available to take this on, I'm happy to do so. With JP's help, of course.
Here's what I need from you, if you have a minute:
1. If you would like on the task of making use of the membership list before CCCC, just say the word. That would be MARVELOUS!
2. If you can't but would still like to see something done with the list, let me know by Saturday (if possible). JP is sending out a bunch of notes for BWe tomorrow morning and I'd like to put this in there with that to-do list.
If you think something should/can be done with the list, please check the note below and let me know your thoughts. It seems crucial that the note come from CBW.
What's the rush?
I just hate the idea of the membership list sitting in a file somewhere. I don't like what this says to the people who put their names on the list, and I also hate that Kelly spent so much time pulling this list together (April
2009) and we've yet to do something with it.
Seems we should do something with it. But what?
I propose we send a note to all of the folks on the list and invite them to pick up an "I am Basic Writing" sticker at CCCC and preview the Table of Contents for the upcoming issue (also attached).
If no one is available to take this on, I can do it. With JP's wonderful help.
But only if you guys approve. Can you let us
Maybe something like--

Thank you for joining the Conference on Basic Writing! Last year, you answered our call for members, and we want you to know your membership matters.
We are looking forward to seeing so many of you in Louisville, KY, next week for CCCC 2010, the Conference on Basic Writing workshop Wednesday, 3/17 ("Social Justice, Multi-modalities and Basic Writers"), or the Conference on Basic Writing Special Interest Group meeting on Tuesday, March 18 (6:30-7:30). Perhaps even all three!
If you will be at CCCC next week, please come by and pick up an "I am Basic Writing" sticker from one of us. We'll be at the CBW Workshop all day Wednesday and the CBW SIG Thursday. Get them while supplies last and wear them with pride. We certainly will!
We know all of you won't be able to make it to Kentucky next week, and we want you know know how important you are to the Conference on Basic Writing.
We will bring from CCCC 2010 information and resources CBW members can use, and we invite you to continue contributing to the national conversation on basic writing through the CBW-L listserv, the CBW Facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=50538806660), and the CBW blog ( http://cbwblog.wordpress.com/).
Coming soon: BWe Double Issue (2009-2010). Visit the above for a preview!
Basic writing matters, and we are all basic writing. We look forward to making a difference--together.

Hi, all--
Updates on CBW Workshop, next BWe issue, Special Issue CFP (ala Gleason), and other details coming soon.
But I wanted to check with you about the list Kelly Ritter developed for us (attached).
What shall we do with this? It seems we should do something.
What about coupling the "I am Basic Writing" campaign with the list? Would it be useful to invite everyone on that list to come pick up a sticker?
Would it be useful to request contact information from others who might want a sticker but might not yet be on the membership list (or not remember), further growing tht list at CCCC 2010?
If that's useful, who's willing to take on that task before we take off for KY?
Other suggestions most welcome!
Yours,
--

Subject: List of new CBW members, attached
Hi Shannon:
I'm not sure if you are the person to send this to, but I've attached the list of "new" CBW members that I compiled based on the sign-ups at Cs, and the follow-up expressions of interest generated from my WPA-L call. There are a total of 128 names, which I am assuming are all new (not on the e-mail list for CBW, etc.). I have included their e-mail address, institutional name, and institutional city--so we could track membership demographics. In a couple of cases one or both of those last two categories are missing. If people didn't provide a city, I looked up their institution, so if there is a city, it should be the correct one.
As I said, not sure if you are the next possessor of the list, but I thought it should be passed on. Thanks!
Kelly
