[CBW_Exec] Thanks and additional request for help (cut! To 5000 from 7075!)

Thanks, Susan.
I wonder: does the proposal need the "time" statements (11:45 - 1:00 part 2, or whatever)? That may be one place to cut. (The workshop leaders and folks need the specific times, but the proposal probably does not.)

Hi everyone,
I just spoke to Shannon to confirm. I'm happy to take on the revision and final submission.
Peace and good weekend,
Susan

Hi, all--
I just spoke with Hannah and want to thank her for taking care of just about EVERYTHING on this important proposal before life intervened a couple days ago. We spoke several times about plans, but for me it was April that forced me out of pocket with multiple trips back and forth between Corpus and Dallas (about a nine hour drive, 16 round trip, x3 last month!)
Hannah drafted the proposal, contacted all of you, got it into the system, and everything else commendable and necessary with no help from me. SO grateful for that, as I've been struggling to catch up and against the pain of a recent loss. And other midnight publication deadline, which you'll hear about in a moment.
So THANKS, Hannah! We'll take it from here.
Of course we are at the deadline, and it looks like I'll need your help to complete the process.
FIRST and foremost: We have FAR too many characters in this draft. We get 5000 characters.
We have 7075!
HELP!!!!!!
I am SO sorry, but I absolutely cannot cut that to size. Can one or more of you get in and hack away? There is no possible way I can do this. Cutting is my absolutely weakness and, on top of everything else associated with life and the day job, CCC gave me less than seven days to cut 12 pages from an article accepted ("as is"!) in 2006. Just about every minute of that time span is already spent, and though I've been looking for potential cuts in every tiny spare moment I've had since I learned of the need for such cuts I'm only just this minute finding places that might possibly go. (BTW: Her hands are tied, as well. Darn reality of budget cuts and last minute decisions at levels beyond the editor's control. Life happens, doesn't it?)
Help?
Also:
1. SIG: I'll add the SIG in the system under Hannah's credentials. Please take a look and let me know if you see any problems with it.
2. Workshop: (a) need names for "Discussion Leaders" in a couple of instances. If you are listed as a facilitator but your name does not appear in the prose of the workshop prose itself, please add your name as "Discussion Leader" somewhere in the proposal. If we have anyone listed in one place but not the other, reviewers will count it against us. (b) need names for the National Database presentation (Deborah and Rebecca: would you check on that portion of the abstract?), ( C ) CUT!!!!!!
We can include the longer proposal at our website (and maybe the blog?). Website concern still being addressed. Soon. Very soon.
On the rest: I REALLY need your help!
If you can help, please email all of us here so we know who is doing what and don't get ourselves too tangled up, then get into the system to make those cuts directly.

I tried to revise the last section and added another several words to the end, which is when the system jumped in and said no way.
If we can find space for any of this, it might be useful. But probably not. As I said, I'm an adder not a cutter. Sigh. We had a hell of a time getting the proposal down to size last year. Whew.
See what you think. ..

In addition the workshops ongoing goals to promote best practices in basic writing, CBW 2010 has two key objectives:
(1) The day's presentations and activities should yield a strong infrastructure, contacts, and ideas for acting locally and nationally on behalf of basic writing and students called "basic writers" and
(2) lead to a revised Social Justice Policy Statement, which CBW membership will present to CCCC in hopes of ratification.

Kathleen--Please do feel free to add yourself as a facilitator in one of the interactive pieces/small group pieces and post your info. There is room.
Thanks everyone for doing the update.
SHANNON--Did you do SIG stuff? Is it under my sign-in or what? I can check but things remain a mess here. I am starting to dread Mays.

Shannon and Hannah, thanks for the updates, and especially for putting
together what will be a great precon.
I would like to be listed as a facilitator, if possible, but I didn't add
myself since you said there was limited space and because I was listed
last year. So, if there is room, I can add myself or you can add me with
the info below (or the info from last year), and if there is not room, I
won't be on the program. Thanks.
Happy grading and life to all. kb
