[BSW] MSW Program

In case any of you are interested in the Masters of Social Work program at Texas A&M University-Commerce, this email includes all the information you need to fully apply.  The Master of Social Work (MSW) program prepares graduates to work with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. The program is designed to explore current social problems and issues, so graduates will be prepared to become advanced generalists or social work practitioners.

The MSW program is fully accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). It is also one of the most affordable social work programs in Texas with convenient campus locations. Classes for advanced standing students are offered at our main campus in Commerce, the Mesquite Metroplex Center in Mesquite and Colin Higher Education Center in McKinney. The face-to-face option offers courses during the day and evenings. The MSW program can now be completed 100% online for students who reside within a 500 mile geographic radius of the Commerce, TX campus - to facilitate field practicum (regardless of delivery method chosen for classes).

If your overall GPA is below 3.0 you will only be eligible for Conditional admission. Conditional admission means you must maintain a 3.0 graduate GPA at the end of 12 graduate semester hours.  Conditional admission does not keep you from receiving financial aid, if needed.

Any files completed after the deadline will be reviewed for the next available semester. Incomplete files will automatically be deferred to the next available semester.

File completion deadlines are as follows:
Fall                  July 1
Spring             November 1
Summer          March 1

The first step is to apply at Apply Texas https://www.applytexas.org/adappc/gen/c_start.WBX <https://www.applytexas.org/adappc/gen/c_start.WBX%20> .  There is a $50 application fee.  It takes up to 72 hours to get to TAMU-C Graduate School.  This is the ONLY information you will submit directly to the Graduate School, all other forms should be submitted to MSWAdmissions at tamuc.edu<mailto:MSWAdmissions at tamuc.edu> to reach the School of Social Work.

These attached forms are what is needed to complete your application:

1.   Official bachelor's degree transcript (or transcript with coursework to date, if currently enrolled) Order

      now and have emailed to MSWAdmissions at tamuc.edu<mailto:MSWAdmissions at tamuc.edu>

2.   Professional narrative signed and dated (see instructions attached)

3.   Resume (less than one year old)

4.   Reference List Form

5.   References (3)

6.   Social Work Information Form

7.   Passport style (selfie) photo

References:

  *   must be submitted on our reference forms!
  *   must be signed by the reference and emailed by the reference to MSWAdmissions at tamuc.edu<mailto:MSWAdmissions at tamuc.edu>
  *   will only be accepted from current or past instructors and/or supervisors and the relationship/time known must be clearly stated in Question #1

** Students are required to start part time for spring/summer terms because of when classes are offered and full time for fall terms.

PROGRAMS

Advanced Standing Program
For the admissions process in the Advanced Standing Program, you must meet the following criteria:

*         Earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program within six years of the anticipated start date of the program.

*         Cumulative bachelor's GPA of 3.00 or higher or at least 3.00 overall GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.

*         If you have the two above items, you won't have to turn in all the paperwork mentioned above, just your transcript (Degree Works) and pay $50 on Apply Texas.  Although your resume is not required by our department for Fast Track,  it is required by the graduate school so it is preferred to go ahead and turn it in.

Foundation Program
For the admissions process in the Foundation Program, you must meet 1 of 3 criteria:

*         Bachelor's degree that is not in Social Work; or

*         Bachelor in Social Work older than 6 years of anticipated start date (no matter of GPA); or

*         Bachelor in Social Work with overall GPA less than 3.00.

For both programs, applicants should:

-          Complete application at Apply Texas and submit $50 application fee.

-          Submit official bachelor's and, if applicable, master's transcripts to the Social Work department at MSWAdmissions at tamuc.edu<mailto:MSWAdmissions at tamuc.edu>

All admission materials are kept in the School of Social Work until your admission file is complete, our Admissions Committee has reviewed your file, and they have reached a decision.  Then your admission materials will be sent to the Graduate School for posting in myLeo portal.
