I have over 20 spring positions available with CitySquare AmeriCorps beginning January 7, 2019. I appreciate you sharing this opportunity with A&M Commerce social work students!

Spring 2019 Social Services AmeriCorps Member

AmeriCorps is a national community service program that allows thousands of Americans to give back to their community and get paid to do it! CitySquare’s spring 2019 AmeriCorps members serve vulnerable populations in Dallas, Fort Worth, Farmer’s Branch and Mesquite.  Members serve to fulfill neighbors’ needs regarding food, housing, case management, workforce skill development, social determinants of health and/or life skills training.

Spring 2019 positions are available in five categories:

  1.  Case management (homeless outreach, health clinic, court deferral programs, etc.)
  2.  Workforce development (job training, job retention support, adult ESL, etc.)
  3.  Food security (food pantries, volunteer coordination)
  4.  Housing support (activities coordination/case management assistance at supportive housing programs)
  5.  Economic opportunity (tax prep volunteer coordination, financial empowerment coaching)

Primary duties in each setting include providing economically disadvantaged and/or homeless neighbors with community referrals related to food, mental and physical health services, transportation, housing, employment, and other needs as determined through intake and assessment. These duties may be executed either in a single meeting or through ongoing support, depending on the program. This service opportunity is highly interpersonal, and requires that members serve well with others. Members must be able to accommodate changing service conditions and diverse points of view.

Benefits of becoming a CitySquare AmeriCorps Member:

  *   Members receive a $3,000 living allowance (paid in biweekly installments during the term- $375 pre-tax every two weeks)
  *   Members receive a $1,566.14 education award at the end of their term (can be used for tuition or student loans)
  *   Professional development trainings and networking opportunities
  *   Some service positions may fulfill college and university internship requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  *   Available from January 7 – April 26, 2019
  *   Available 32 hours per week during business hours, M-F 8am-5pm
  *   High School Graduate (17 or older)
  *   U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Deferred action and temporary permanent resident do not qualify)
  *   Able to access reliable transportation
  *   Able to pass a criminal background check
Preferred qualifications:

  *   Preferred one year experience in a non-profit setting as a paid employee or volunteer, and/or experience in social work, human service or a related field
