Subject: Residence Halls Move-in Program, Fall 2005-we need help!!
Friends,
Residence Halls will open Wednesday, August 24. We have a move-in program
so University faculty, staff and students can lend a hand with the moving
process and get acquainted with students, parents and family members. This
is a great way to show "we care" and to begin connecting with our students.
So far, we have only 30 volunteers, and we need about 80!
E. Thayne King, Director of Residence Life, tells me that all volunteers are
welcome and that there's a job for everybody: you can help carry, serve as
a building captain, or be a greeter! All you need to do is sign up and
indicate if you want a particular assignment or site. Faculty and staff
greeting the students and parents makes a wonderful first impression.
Student organization Advisors: This is a good way to raise consciousness
about your organization among students who move in on the first day. Also,
any member of your organization who signs on for an assigned shift during
the Move-In Program will be able check into the residence halls on Tuesday,
August 23, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. If your group can help (no number of
volunteers per group is too few), please let us know.
Scheduling: We open the residence halls Wednesday, August 24. Volunteers
will be scheduled in two-hour shifts (10 a.m.-noon; noon-2 p.m.; 2-4; and
4-6 p.m.). If you prefer a particular shift or facility, please let the
Residence Life staff know. Otherwise, staff will assume you want one shift.
Some volunteers have worked more than one shift in the past, but whatever
time and energy you can share will be appreciated.
If you can volunteer, please e-mail Angie Hill, Administrative Assistant who
will handle scheduling arrangements. Her e-mail address is
<mailto:angie_hill at tamu-commerce.edu> angie_hill at tamu-commerce.edu; phone is
x 5798.
Many thanks for your attention to this call and for your help on
August 24!
Joyce A. Scott, Provost
