DSVC Golden Apple Award winner, Associate Professor Joshua Ege

The Golden Apple award is presented each year to a faculty member teaching visual communication or a related program in the United States.

During a virtual awards ceremony on April 3rd, the Dallas Society of Visual Communications (DSVC) awarded VisCom Associate Professor Joshua Ege the Golden Apple award at the 17th Annual National Student Show and Conference. This Educator of the Year award is presented annually to a faculty member at a college, university or art school in the United States whose understanding of the visual communications profession, superior curriculum, and exemplary mentoring are evident in the collective quality of the work of students from their classes.

The DSVC considers only those candidates whose students nominate a professor by submitting a completed entry form and short essay. While the Golden Apple has been awarded for decades, the honor became a national award in 2004 at the First National Student Show and Conference.

Upon hearing of the recognition, CHSSA Dean Dr. William Kuracina said, “The Department of Art and the College of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts have known for quite some time that Professor Ege is an inspiring and engaging teacher, an exemplary professional mentor for our students. The Golden Apple award means that Professor Ege’s quality contributions to Design teaching and research are no longer a well-kept secret. I am thrilled that Professor Ege has earned national acclaim with this honor. It properly situates him within the field locally and nationally and it speaks volumes about Professor Ege and about the quality of students enrolled in the Visual Communications program at A&M–Commerce. Congratulations Professor Ege!”

This year’s award ceremony’s finale was a fitting video tribute created and produced by current A&M Commerce students and alumni for the event.

Joshua Ege began as an adjunct educator for the Art Department at A&M Commerce in 2007 and became a tenure track faculty member in 2013. He currently teaches Design Communications I & II, Art Direction, VisCom Professional Practice and VisCom Senior Studio.
